According to The Verge, Discord plans to expand its service beyond the gaming community. The company says the change is one its users have requested as Discord has become more of a tool for “day-to-day communication.”

Discord, a chat app originally created for gamers, has seen its user numbers accelerate during the pandemic — these are teachers, students, co-workers, and others using the service to connect with like-minded groups.

For some companies, Discord became an ideal base for building an efficient business environment even before the pandemic — and Overgear is one of the few.

“For our team, Discord is a fully-fledged office space alternative, where we can set up effective and comfortable communication.

Voice channels can function as an office room for joint work and team coordination. If you need a meeting room, you can use direct messages for one-on-one conversation or create channels for smaller groups. The best part is that you don’t need to set up a call or select participants — just one click and you’re done.

Text channels are great for sharing formal information: order requests, execution conditions, status updates. In a way, that’s an email alternative — but in the same interface, which is important.

Another great thing is the three-way channels with sellers and buyers. Other communication apps are unlikely to provide us with such flexibility — you’d have to ask participants to join (99% of our users already use Discord), set up conference calls, and all that. Supporting my earlier metaphor, these three-party channels are our conference rooms for external meetings.”
